BROOKLYN AND QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOLS AND ACADEMIES TO CONTINUE IN-PERSON LEARNING

Dr. Thomas Chadzutko, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for Brooklyn and Queens, has announced that all 69 schools and academies will remain open and continue to provide in-person learning, in spite of the decision made to close New York City public schools indefinitely starting tomorrow.

“I am frustrated that the Mayor’s announcement was made as Catholic schools and academies throughout Brooklyn and Queens were dismissing our students. I want to make it clear to parents, teachers, staff, and students that the Mayor’s announcement only pertains to New York City public schools, and our schools will be open tomorrow. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that our school community remains safe for everyone, and we will continue to ensure strict compliance with all health and safety protocols,” said Dr. Thomas Chadzutko, Superintendent of Catholic Schools ~ Office of Support Services.

Catholic schools in the Diocese in Brooklyn and Queens have provided safe, five days a week in-person learning since beginning this school year, as scheduled, on September 9. The Superintendent, along with the Superintendent of the Archdiocese of New York, has received confirmation from the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Non-Public Schools that they will maintain entitled services for Catholic school students, including school nurses, transportation, and food.

         Catholic Academies and Parish Schools within the Diocese of Brooklyn have successfully operated for more than two months due to the strict adherence to the important “Core Four” actions to prevent COVID-19 transmission, including maintaining physical distance, wearing a face covering, practicing healthy hand hygiene, and staying home if sick. The schools and academies of the Diocese of Brooklyn continue to work with New York State and City Department of Health officials on a regular basis to maintain the safety of all of our students, faculty, and staff.

To keep our students and families safe, this year we are advising everyone to place all orders ONLINE. This way we will not be collecting Forms & Money and not be accepting Deliveries or distributing Products from our school.

Please Look over the Catalogs to familiarize yourself with the products we are offering. Please consider placing orders yourself. Go online and you will see even more product options. Place your orders online and you can have delivery directly to your home. You can even offer gifts for your Friends and Family and send the items to them directly.

Additionally, this fundraiser offers a new way to fundraise that is fast, easy and effective, so please PARTICIPATE! Your support is vital to our success and it takes less than 10 minutes to “Join” The Clubhouse and send 10 messages. Important Information about TACHS Test

Dear Parents/Families,

I am sharing with you the information which was received about the TACHS exam from the Diocese.

We are now about 1-1/2 weeks away from our TACHS testing day, November 7th, in the Diocese of Brooklyn. 

Riverside, the testing company, is working diligently to provide a successful testing experience for students.

Please make sure to read all attachments on the www.tachsinfo.com website and the attached TACHS 2020- Student Handbook. 

Read and follow ALL directions provided when you receive the 10/31- “Test Session Code” email that will provide you with the day/time of testing and the test session code.  Adding the Chrome browser and Proctorio extension and doing the system pre-check and navigational tool, 3-4 days prior to testing is essential to ensuring a successful testing experience.  All this information will be included in the registered parents’ 10/31 email. The systems check can also be found in the attached Student Handbook, pages 6-7-8. 

You will begin receiving several emails from the Riverside testing company the week of TACHS with reminders and the email address that you should be on the lookout for and read is from the testing company at: tachs@tachs.riverside-insights.com

In addition, all three (3)-High School Choices must be entered by the deadline of 5 P.M. on November 5th, 2020 on the TACHS website at: www.tachsinfo.com

A confirmation email will be sent to you from the email address above.  Changes of high school choices can be made until that deadline and an updated confirmation email will be sent as well.  No extensions will be given beyond this due date.  If a parent does not submit their three (3) high school choices, then the student’s TACHS scores will not be able to go anywhere and the student will not receive admissions notices. 

If a student should be “kicked” out of the TACHS test on November 7th, they can log back in that day and resume where they left off – they will not lose any work.  If a student experiences local wifi issues, and cannot get back on, they will be assigned to a make-up date and will resume where they left off.  Students who require a make-up for any reason, will receive an email from Riverside for the TACHS make-up with the new test date/time and new test session code.  Please know that  the make-up date cannot be confirmed yet at this point in time .

You must read the documents and emails; if a parent/student doesn’t do the necessary set-up, there are no guarantees of successful testing.

Planning for the Distribution of Instructional Materials and Tech Devices

Saint Thomas Aquinas Distance Learning Program

The distribution of the instructional materials and tech devices is the next step in the full implementation of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Distance Learning Program.

A schedule has been developed to support distribution.  A site has been established in Queens, at the Immaculate Conception Center, located at 7200 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston, New York 11362; and in Brooklyn, at Our Lady of Grace—Brooklyn, located at 430 Avenue W, Gravesend-Brooklyn, NY 11223.

Unfortunately, at the present time, we are still waiting for delivery confirmation of the tech devices.  As a result, the schedule below, only pertains to the picking-up of the instructional materials, for students in Kindergarten through Grade 3.  A separate pick-up schedule will be provided, as soon as the devices arrive…
